Improved Jumbo is a vigorous and highly productive avocado variety recognized for its impressively large, oval-shaped fruit, commonly ranging from 32 - 40 ounces each. Its dependable yields and substantial fruit size make it an outstanding choice for growers seeking both productivity and quality.

The fruit features medium-thick green skin that remains green even at maturity, helping protect the smooth, creamy flesh inside. The flavor is mild, buttery, and approachable, with a medium oil content that appeals to a wide range of avocado preferences. The skin is relatively thin and remains mostly green while developing a duller appearance and slight purple blush near the shoulders as the fruit ripens.

Improved Green Gold

Vigorous • Predictable • Flavorful

Improved Green Gold is a standout late-season avocado that ripens from approximately November through January, offering rich, buttery fruit during the cooler months when quality avocados are especially appreciated.

This variety is prized for its exceptional meat-to-seed ratio, delivering thick, uniform flesh with a rich fatty, nutty flavor that avocado lovers immediately recognize. The texture is smooth and consistent throughout the fruit, making it excellent for fresh eating, sandwiches, poke, guacamole, and more.

One characteristic that truly sets Improved Green Gold apart is its ability to handle bruising and transport better than many softer avocado varieties, helping maintain quality after harvest.

The tree itself is vigorous and productive. If left unmanaged and unpruned, it can become a large tree exceeding 25 feet in height. However, with proper pruning and training, it can easily be maintained as a manageable and harvestable tree around 15 feet tall. Its naturally wide growth habit responds especially well to structural training and orchard-style management.

Under good nutrition and care, Improved Green Gold is known to be a heavy and dependable annual producer, making it an excellent choice for both home growers and small orchards throughout Hawaiʻi.
